Scholarship Program

Submission deadline is July 1 annually.

The One AWWA Operator Scholarship is funded through the support of AWWA’s The Water Equation Campaign and the Western Canada Section AWWA.

  • AWWA’s The Water Equation Campaign and the Western Canada Section AWWA, will award the One AWWA Operator Scholarship in the amount of $500 for Water Operator training and education. 
  • Three scholarships will be awarded.
  • Funding can be used for certification, two-year water related associate degree, technical school program, professional training program, books and manuals, and operator related conferences.
  • Each scholarship recipient will also receive a one-year AWWA Operator membership.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a current operator or seeking to enter the water operator profession.
  • Applicant must be pursuing an Operator Certification, two or four-year degree related to the water operator profession, or professional development.
  • Disbursement of the funds will be made directly by the Section to the financial office of recipient’s college, university, or technical school.
  • Items related to books, manuals, conferences, professional development courses, and other eligible expenses will be reimbursed to recipient upon presentation of eligible receipts.
  • Applicant must reside or work within the geographical boundaries covered by the sponsoring Section, which includes Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
  • Acceptance of scholarship constitutes permission to use recipient’s name and scholarship story for purpose of promotion.

One Operator Application Form

This scholarship targets traditionally underrepresented groups including women, visible minorities, students with disabilities and Indigenous Peoples enrolled full-time in an integrated water industry related program at an accredited institution.  The intent is to encourage members of these groups to pursue a career in the integrated water industry, and to become leaders in these fields.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must identify as female, a visible minority, student with disability, and/or aboriginal student.
  • Applicant must reside and be enrolled in a program at an accredited institution within the geographical boundaries covered by the Section (Alberta, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, or Saskatchewan).
  • Applicant must have clear academic standing.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th and/or graduating year of their program.
  • Applicant must not have received this award previously.
  • Preference will be given to existing members.
  •  Preference will be given to an applicant with a demonstrated interest in and/or previous experience working in the integrated water industry.

  •  $1,500

  •  WCW Conference registration
Diversity in Water Scholarship Application Form

This bursary targets the immediate family of individual members, who are enrolled in an accredited institution. The bursary will be randomly drawn at the WCS AWWA breakfast/lunch at the WCW Conference using applications received by the deadline each year.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be sponsored by an individual member of WCS AWWA, Self-sponsorship is acceptable if the applicant is a member, 
  • Applicant must be a spouse, child, legal ward of a member, or a member of AWWA.
  • The parent, spouse, legal guardian or member must reside within the geographical boundaries covered by the Section, which includes Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
  • The parent, legal guardian or member must have been a WCS AWWA member for at least five full calendar years before the year of application.
  •  Applicant must reside and be enrolled in a program at an accredited institution

Bursary Amount (per Recipient)

  • $500
Legacy Bursary Application Form

This scholarship rewards student members for excellence in studies in an integrated water industry related field at an accredited institution.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must reside within the geographical boundaries covered by the Section, which includes Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
  • Applicant must have clear academic standing.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th and/or graduating year of their program.
  • Preference will be given to existing members.
  • Preference will be given to an applicant with a demonstrated interest in and/or previous experience working in the integrated water industry.

Merit Scholarship Application Form

This grant is provided to members for enrollment/registration in a qualifying educational professional development program and for associated expenses.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be an individual member of American Water Works Association.
  • Preference will be given to active volunteers of WCS AWWA.
  •  Applicant must have volunteered for at least one WCS AWWA activity.
  •  Applicant must reside within the geographical boundaries covered by the Section, which includes Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

 Bursary Amount (per Recipient)

  • Maximum of $1,500 per grant
Member Grant Application Form

This grant is provided to community groups (cadets, guides, youth groups, school classes, etc.) to develop and organize a community educational and/or environmental campaign related to an integrated water topic.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be an approved representative of the community group.
  • The community group must operate within the geographical boundaries covered by the Section, which includes Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Grant Amount

  • Maximum of $1,000 per grant

  • The availability and monetary value of all scholarships, grants and bursaries are subject to change.
  •  WCS AWWA reserves the right to change or discontinue the listed grant, scholarship or bursary information and/or value without notice.
  • All scholarship values are in Canadian dollars.
  • Selection will be based on the principle of open and equal opportunity and carried out by the WCS AWWA Selection Committee.
  • WCS AWWA may choose to not award a scholarship if the selection committee determines that no appropriate candidates have applied.
  •  The Selection Committee may, at its discretion, choose not to award a bursary or grant to an applicant.
  •  Acceptance of scholarship/grant/bursary constitutes permission to use recipient’s name, photograph, and scholarship story for purpose of promotion.
  • Where possible, and upon written request from the recipient, disbursement of the funds will be made directly by the Section to the financial office of recipient’s institution.
  •  If the applicant is unable to successfully complete the conditions of the program, the funds will not be awarded.
